| Rapper Komplex Kai, or Kisar Jones-Fryberg as most friends
and family know him, held an all-ages concert at the Tulalip
Inn on Saturday, April 8th.
Unlike his recent performance at the Quil Ceda Creek Casino
that was limited to adults, this concert featured songs from
his two CD's that were both adult and child friendly. The
good attendance reflected the expansion to a broader age group.
There was a crowd of 200 people.
"A lot of kids out here haven't heard Kisar rap before,"
said his manager, Michele Madison. "This was a good opportunity
for them."
"I hope that what I bring to the stage helps motivate
kids — either into thinking they can rap, or into trying
something unrelated to music," said Kisar. "I want
to open the door for them."
"This is also for the people who have known me and have
known what I've wanted to do for a long time," he added.
Prior to Kisar's performance, other area rappers were welcomed
on stage to perform for the appreciative crowd.
But when Kisar hit the stage, the room jumped. Adults and
kids alike danced and bounced to his songs about 'life on
the rez.'
Asked what he thought of the concert, ten-year-old Kalani
Fryberg echoed the sentiments of those around him, "I
think it's amazing."
